Marsalis Music is proud to announce that its founder, Branford Marsalis and the entire musical Marsalis Family will be honored with a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award on January 11 at the Rose Theater of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
The Jazz Masters Award is given to living legends that have made significant contributions to jazz. The members of the Marsalis Family, both as individuals and as an American jazz family institution, have heralded the importance of preserving and expanding jazz through music education, production, and musicianship.
On Monday, January 10 at 1:00pm, the 2011 Jazz Masters will present a panel discussion moderated by A.B. Spellman open to the public on a first come, first served basis in the Varis-Leichtman Studio at Jazz at Lincoln Center. This discussion was originally scheduled for Monday evening, but was moved earlier to allow the Jazz Masters and the panel’s audience members to attend a memorial service to jazz hero, Dr. Billy Taylor, who passed away on December 28.
Tickets for the NEA Jazz Masters ceremony and concert on Tuesday, January 11were open to the public on a first come, first served basis, but all general seating is filled at this time. If you would like to attend and cover, please be in touch for current availability.
Both the panel discussion and the awards ceremony will be streamed live at www.arts.gov [1]. The ceremony and performances will also be broadcast live on Sirius XM Satellite Radio’s Real Jazz Channel 70, WBGO radio on 88.3FM (wbgo.org [2]), and at NPR Music (nprmusic.org).
With warm regards,
Courtney Hawkes
